Dear Beloveds,
This week we are exploring the edge of the known, that sacred threshold where our familiar patterns end and something new begins. So far, we defined the edge as leaving our comfort zone and stepping into the zone of uncertainty and fear! We also heard the promise that the path beyond will be made clear or we will know how to fly! At this very moment, you might be at the edge of the known, I certainly feel that way. Standing at this edge can feel tender, exhilarating, or uncertain. And yet, it is always an invitation. An opening. A doorway into deeper becoming.
This experience is so beautifully illustrated in one of my favorite teaching stories, the Autobiography in Five Short Chapters, where we witness the human journey from unconscious repetition to conscious choice. We see ourselves in those chapters—falling into the same hole, noticing it, walking around it, and eventually choosing a different street altogether. This week, we explore that evolution. We honor the courage it takes to pause at the edge, breathe, and say: “I’m willing to meet what I do not yet know.”
Notice this week, where you find yourself at the edge, wanting to find a different path altogether. You are invited to bring this awareness into the service on Sunday, whether your are in the sanctuary, or be joining us via our online campus.
Much Love,
Rev. Karin
Questions for contemplation:
1. Where in your life do you feel yourself standing at the “edge of the known” right now?
2. Have you noticed any patterns or “same holes” you keep falling into, and what might a different path look like?
3. What helps you find courage or trust when stepping into uncertainty or something new?
