NVC Outreach
NVC Outreach Is Firing on Multiple Cylinders!
NVC Outreach continues to fire on multiple cylinders this quarter as we respond to the growing needs of our community. From supporting seniors experiencing homelessness to feeding our neighbors and providing life-saving water in the Arizona heat, we’re turning compassion into action.
1. Supporting the Justa Center
Our Q3 charity partner, the Justa Center, supports seniors experiencing homelessness. We continue to collect new or gently used T-shirts and shorts, hats, sunscreen, and hygiene supplies to help meet the everyday needs of the seniors they serve.
And the need is greater than ever. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, approximately 30% of people experiencing homelessness in the U.S. are over age 55. When the Justa Center began serving the community in 2006, the average age of its clients was 57. Today, that average is 65, as more adults—including those over 70—are experiencing homelessness for the first time.
With retirement savings falling short and housing and medical costs continuing to rise, more seniors are finding themselves without a safe and stable place to call home.
NVC is helping send a powerful message to the seniors served by the Justa Center: We see you. We care about you. And you are not forgotten.

Help Get Senior Housing Back on Track
There has also been a heartbreaking setback. The Justa Center was close to completing three modular homes that were being prepared for occupancy when, earlier this month, all three were burglarized. Because construction was still being completed, the homes had not yet been insured.
Copper wiring, air-conditioning units, and other materials were stolen, resulting in more than $10,000 in damage.
For an organization working so hard to provide safe housing for seniors living on the streets, this is a significant setback. We can help.

2. Feeding Our Neighbors
Please continue bringing nonperishable food donations for the Paradise Valley Community Food Bank. Donations can be placed in the wagon in the church lobby.

Arizona summers can be especially dangerous for people experiencing homelessness. You can help provide bottled water through Keys to Change Thirst Aid program, helping ensure that people living on the streets have access to this basic—and potentially life-saving—necessity.

2026 2ND QUARTER OUTREACH PARTNERS
AZ Family Promise & Arizona Special Olympics Summer Games
Because becoming homeless can be one of the most frightening and challenging experiences a family can face, NVC Outreach chose to partner with Family Promise of Greater Phoenix, an organization dedicated to helping families stay together while they regain stability and hope. Statistics for homelessness in Maricopa County for March of this year are concerning. There was a 5% increase in chronically homeless households (3,660 households), a 6% increase in older adult households (1,325), and a 17% increase in households with a Veteran (589). Let those numbers sink in. That was just for one month in one county.
Families experiencing homelessness have often lost so much — finances, possessions, stability, and a sense of security. Family Promise provides resources, shelter support, and compassionate care to help families rebuild their lives. We also learned that many families, when faced with giving up a beloved pet, instead choose to live in their car or on the streets. Through this partnership, we hope to help families stay together — including their pets — during an incredibly difficult season.
Our NVC community can truly make a difference in the lives of these neighbors. We are currently collecting new pet items such as water bowls, leashes, collars, and toys. We are also raising funds toward the purchase of a new washer and dryer for transitional housing. Something as simple as clean clothes can restore a sense of dignity and hope.

2026 1ST QUARTER OUTREACH PARTNER
Corbin's Legacy
New Vision Center is turning the collective intention toward a vital new outreach partnership with Corbin’s Legacy, a non-profit dedicated to eliminating food and medical insecurity for underrepresented elementary school children in Maricopa County.
Many students who rely on school meals face a "hunger gap" over the weekend. The Weekend Warrior program bridges that gap, providing bags filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food so these children can return to school on Monday nourished and ready to thrive.
Expanding Hearts Through Love and Service
Dr. Joan Leafman, Director of our first quarter charity partner, Corbin’s Legacy, shared a sobering reality: within any square mile in the Phoenix area, at least 1 in 4 children will go hungry and 1 in 6 will go without needed medical care on any given night.
On, Feb 28th NVC stepped into that need. More than three dozen “Weekend Warrior” volunteers gathered in our Breezeway to pack weekend food bags for children identified by their schools as food insecure. Dr. Leafman reported that NVC not only provided the food but packed over 750 bags on Saturday morning! That is enough to provide food for a weekend for all identified children in over 25 different schools. She said “That is amazing!”
As each bag moved from hand to hand, it was clear that more than food was being placed inside — love, compassion, and hope were being packed as well. We trust that every child who opens a bag will feel that care.
Thank you to every volunteer who demonstrated what it truly means to expand hearts through love and service. While our packing party has ended, the opportunity to make a difference continues. Donations to support the Corbin’s Legacy’s mission to eliminate childhood food insecurity will be accepted through NVC through the end of March.
